Palm Springs Gay Veterans Celebrate On November 11, 2014

palm springs gay veterans day parade

My grandfather (pictured above left) entered the military straight out of high school. He retired from his service in the 1960s and moved to Palm Springs with my grandmother. He didn’t live to see the Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade, but I’m sure he would have been proud.

This year, as in past years, many of the veterans marching in the parade will be proud gay men and lesbians. I’m guessing there aren’t a lot of other places in the country where you’ll find out and open LGBTQ veterans marching in Veterans Day Parades. Just another reason for gay vets to call Palm Springs home.

The 18th Annual Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade will be held on Tuesday, November 11 at 3:30 p.m in downtown Palm Springs.

The parade starts at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and heads northbound on Palm Canyon Drive to Alejo Road. A patriotic concert and will be held following the parade, with a fireworks finale at approximately 5:00 p.m.

The parade and concert are free and the public is invited.

Palm Springs Adjacent Homes At Half The Price

I just returned from showing homes to a gay couple in Desert Hot Springs. They were pleasantly surprised how much further your money goes just a few miles outside of Palm Springs proper.

DHS, for short, is only about 10 miles or 15 minutes from Palm Springs, which it boarders, but prices are much more affordable, leaving home owners more money to enjoy everything Palm Springs has to offer.

If you are on a limited budget or just want more your money, I would be happy to show you homes in Desert Hot Springs.  Please contact me at the number listed above.

A 73-Year-Old Beat Me To The Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge 6K Finish Line!

One of the many things I love about Palm Springs is that a 73-year-old can beat you in an uphill mountain race. This was my first Palm Springs Tram Road Challenge 6K race, and I’m only 60 (a youngster in Palm Springs), so I have 13 years to catch up to him. I also love that the oldest participant was 91-years-old!

I finished the 29th annual run/walk 761 out of 1,400 participants, and did it in an hour and 9 minutes, but I still have a lot of room for improvement.

Hope to see you at next year’s Challenge and Make A Difference Day. Between now and then, if you want to buy or sell a house, give me a call. That’s what I do with the rest of my time.

Palm Springs Halloween Costume Contest 2014

drag in palm springs calif

With Halloween just a week away, I thought I would share this vintage 1960s Polaroid photo of my grandmother dressed like a man and standing in the back yard of her Palm Springs home.

I didn’t discover this photo until after her death, so I have no clue why she was dressed in drag. It would have been very out of character for her, to say the least. My best guess is that she was dressed up for a Palm Springs Halloween party.

These days, it would be surprising to find anyone living in Palm Springs not dressed in drag on Halloween!

This year’s Palm Springs Halloween Costume Contest will take place on Friday, October 31, 2014, from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM on Arenas Road. The annual event is free to the public.

Palm Springs “Make A Difference Day” Is October 25, 2014

tram road challenge palm springs calif 2014

It took me an hour and a half to walk the 3.7 mile Tram Road from the visitor center on Palm Canyon to the Tramway valley station this morning. Round trip from my doorstep in Mountain Gate (across the street) was eight miles and took three hours.

This video was taken about half way up the road, around 7:30 am this morning. I’m getting ready for this year’s Tram Road Challenge 6K Run/Walk in Palm Springs, California, being held next week on Saturday October 25, 2014. The Challenge is a fund raiser for The United Way of the Desert and Make a Difference Day.

If you don’t have other plans and enjoy steep, strenuous walks, come and join me next Saturday.
